About Us

What’s it like to do your MBA in Vancouver? Why is Vancouver a great place to pursue an MBA? These are questions that this blog intends to help answer. Here’s how it all began:

In January of 2009, upon the re-commencement of classes for the 1 year full-time MBA program at SFU, a number of students initiated a project with the hopes of bringing together SFU Graduate Business Alumni, current MBA students, and members of the SFU Business community. The students thought it would be a good idea to create a website dedicated to following students and alumni through their journey as students and professionals. The intention was to build a deeper connection between all groups involved, as well as to the Graduate Business community in Vancouver and around the world. The students also wanted a site to promote the Vancouver MBA program and encourage others to consider it.

The result, and what you see in front of you is constantly changing and evolving to keep up with ideas and dreams that the contributors have for the site. For the time being the stories are mainly one-off experiences of class, a new career, or a burgeoning idea. The site will also aim to follow certain individuals more closely, like Lindsay Angelo (MBA ’08), who is in her third rotation of the BC Hydro “MPID” program, or Dave Reichert, a current Management of Technology MBA student who loves to write about class experience. Dave is also the VP of Social Media for the Graduate Business Student Association, a student run government for the graduate business school at SFU.

We’ll also be using video wherever possible. The very gracious and talented Mike Underell (MBA ’09) has agreed to have us follow him at work and professional events as he provides insight as to how he’s using his MBA degree in his career. Video will also be used to interview faculty and other individuals critical to the ongoing development of SFU MBA students.

As the first project of its kind at the SFU Graduate Business school, A Few Good Minds should serve multiple purposes. Beyond connecting current MBA students and alumni, the site will also provide insight into SFU’s MBA programs for prospective students. Although the best place for admissions information will always be the SFU Business Website, we hope A Few Good Minds will give everyone who reads it a better idea of the comprehensive and connected MBA and Graduate Business programs at SFU.
